What is Acupressure?
Acupressure is an alternative medicine technique based on the concept of life energy which flows through "meridians" in the body. In treatment, physical pressure is applied to acupuncture points with the aim of clearing blockages in these meridians. Pressure may be applied by hand, by elbow, or with various devices.
Acupressure is an effective form of stimulation used to help relax the muscles. If done regularly, acupressure can sustain improvement and minimize recurrence of symptoms. A simple way to stimulate these points is to press firmly with a finger in a rotary movement or an up-and-down movement for several minutes at a time.
Acupressure technique applies deep, firm pressure to massage and stimulate each point. There are eight commonly used acupressure points:
Acupressure Points
- Feng Chi • Zu San Li
- Jian Jing • He Gu
- Tai Chiong • Ne Guan
- Zhong Chu • San Jin Jiao
Acupressure massage therapy stimulates and activates the body’s own healing energies to prevent illness. Acupressure massage therapy practitioners will press on specific points to promote energy flow to a part of the body that is experiencing disease or discomfort, enabling it to heal more quickly.
